TECH TIME
LEGO We Do 2.0
Explore the world of robotics and computer programming using LEGO We Do 2.0. Have you ever wondered how robotics can be used to help humans in the real world? This is your chance to create and program the LEGO We Do 2.0 to bring those questions to life. Are you up to the challenge of building a helicopter that could be used in a weather-damaged area? Can you build a floodgate to control the surging levels of water in a river? Do you think you could build a structure that could withstand the test of an earthquake simulator? Try your hand at creating something exciting and getting carried away with LEGO 2.0. There's an App for That Do you love to card games on a phone or tablet? There’s an app for that! Do you like to practice math facts or craft worlds out of blocks? There’s an app for that! This session will allow students to explore app creation and coding. Students will interview businesses and create a working app that the businesses can use for their customers. Got a problem? There’s an app for that! Electricity, circuits, and art! This session would cover the basics of electricity and circuits. Students will learn key background information about electricity, design and create circuits, and compete in circuit creation competitions and challenges. The culmination of the week's activities will be creating paper circuit art projects, both individually and in groups on large poster board, that can then be donated to a local community organization, such as the library or the children's hospital. |
Getting Lit with LittleBits
Are you interested in becoming an engineer, musician or architect? Look no further, this session has something for everyone. “Electrify” your summer camp experience by getting hands-on project experience with LittleBits. Build and design your way to the perfect circuits, instruments, toys, and more. Are you ready for a most magical adventure? “Electrify” your summer camp experience by getting hands-on project experience with LittleBits while crafting an invention inspired by the magic of Harry Potter. No engineering experience needed, just a desire to learn! Spheroes Are A-Mazing Students will create a maze challenge for an opponent or opponents to navigate through with their Sphero robots. The mazes will be constructed to include several leveled challenges to engage Sphero functioning/navigation. Students will team up to first design a maze blueprint to scale on graphing paper. Then they will establish a point system for navigating the maze. They will put their structural engineering skills to a test as they construct the maze out of everyday/random objects that they can scavenge from a miscellaneous resources box (cardboard, blocks, etc). Once they finish constructing their maze, they will challenge another team to navigate their maze with their Sphero robot. On the last day, they will show off their structural engineering and robotic programming skills to their families as they demonstrate navigating through each other's mazes. The team with the highest score will receive the titles of the A-mazing Sphero Champions! |
POWER SESSIONS
Adrenaline Rush….the Scream Machine!
Are you a roller coaster enthusiast? What makes you scream? Ever wonder how coasters are made? These powerful beasts create an adrenaline rush for consumers, but where did it all begin? Students will learn about rollercoaster beginnings, how they function, and different designs that make up these thrill-seeking machines. Students will manipulate materials to design their own coaster and participate in a roller coaster simulation. Are you ready for the ride? History is Written by the Survivors Have you ever wanted to explore a new island and help identify new life and land. We will be stranded on an island and use all of our power to explore the new land we are on and the features within it. We will be orienteering throughout the island to help explore the different species and landforms. Let’s learn survival skills and explore new life and land within this island. We will investigate the rocks, minerals, plants, animals and landforms on this island to help explain and describe the land and its life to U.S. officials. This will allow us to become resourceful, creative and critical thinkers, as well as learn lifelong skills. |
Ingenious Interiors
Are you a fan of the ever so popular interior design shows that are all over television right now? Do you think you have what it takes to design a room in someone’s home and work under pressure? Let’s use your power to transform a space and inspire one another! Students will learn about the principles and elements of interior design as they work to create a room from the ground up all while working within a budget. Technology will be used along with hands on materials that students will incorporate into their room designs. Let’s put your creative abilities to the test and see the power behind your imagination! Super Hero - Super You! “With great power, comes great responsibility.” Do you have what it takes to be a modern day superhero? Everyone has greatness inside, together we will discover and unleash your superpower. You will be transformed into the superhero you truly are. Comic books, catch phrases, costumes, and new technology all lends itself to creating your ultimate dream...becoming a SuperHero! During the week you will create your own character, tools and weapons, and backstory as we prepare to introduce your SuperHero to the world. The choice is yours; will you use your gifts, talents, and power for good or for evil? |
